Venezuela’s oil production grew by 0.63 percent in September, reaching an average of 1,105,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to official figures published Monday by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

This marks the seventh consecutive month of growth, following the 1,098,000 bpd reported in August. Since March, when production stood at 1,048,000 bpd, the country has achieved a cumulative increase of 5.43 percent, consolidating the recovery of its main industry.

The milestone of surpassing one million barrels per day was reached in January 2025, with 1,031,000 bpd — the first time since June 2019, according to official data.

Caracas credits the upward trajectory to the resilience of its oil sector in the face of U.S. sanctions. Bilateral frictions have only deepened following the recent deployment of U.S. military assets in the Caribbean —a move of coercive pressure designed to topple President Nicolás Maduro.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently observed that the U.S.-granted license for Chevron to operate in the country at first sparked optimism. However, renewed U.S. hostilities have “partially eroded” those expectations.

Even so, Oil exports remain the country’s financial backbone, and the gradual output recovery is seen as vital to economic stabilization. Still, foreign pressure, sanctions, and geopolitical turbulence continue to try sabotaging the nation’s development.

Venezuelan officials maintain they are committed to advancing the recovery of the energy sector.
